How did a fragrance so boring cultivate so much hype?
If you’re in the cult of Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540, first of all: Hi. Welcome. Second of all, the hunt for a good dupe is an unending quest. BR540 is expensive and while we’re tempted to spritz it on everyday, we want to savour every last drop of that precious liquid.
Enter Burberry Her. Created by the same nose behind BR540 (One Mr. Kurkdjian), this perfume has floated around the internet as a possible dupe or replacement for the real thing. So we had to give it the wear test for a week.
Sad to say, Her is pretty, but not outstanding. It’s a bland, linear fragrance that lacks the stunning complexity of BR540 or even Ariana Grande’s Cloud. There’s none of the woodsiness or musky vanilla dry-down of the latter. Her is pure fruity-floral — a wash of strawberry surrounded by simple white florals.
Her would make a lovely office fragrance because the sillage is delicate and the projection is very subtle. But if you’re looking to save a few dollars on a BR540 dupe, your dreams will be dashed.
