A Completely Honest Review of Gucci Guilty

Gucci says that this fragrance is meant for libertines. We think it plays it safe.

It probably should be called Gucci Innocent. We don’t mean that as a bad thing. But the floral heart of this fragrance (geranium, lilac, patchouli) reads as kind of delicata. The middle notes are an inoffensive powdery rose — the kind that wouldn’t offend your colleagues at the office.

Is this a night time or day time fragrance?

Sure you could get away with wearing this on a night out. The projection and staying power is magnificent, especially for an eau de toilette. But it doesn’t necessarily inspire the kind of confidence and intoxicating sexiness you’d get from the heady florals of Tom Ford’s Black Orchid or even Coco Mademoiselle.

It’s pretty. That’s it. It’s thin and uncomplicated — not bad things!

Again, this is a perfectly acceptable everyday scent. But if you want that “I am cut from the cloth of God and nobody can touch me” type of fragrance, this isn’t it.

What time of year is best to wear Gucci Guilty?

In our completely subjective opinion: February.

Floral scents work year round, but Gucci Guilty, for us, specifically conjures up images of things Valentine’s Day. Flowers. Romance. The (almost) end of wintertime.

Buy or pass?

Yes/no.

Yes: If you’re looking for an airy floral fragrance to wear during the daytime that will last and last.

No: If you already have a veritable garden of scents in your collections. If you’re already stacked to the nines on florals, particularly lilac and rose, then you can pass on Gucci Guilty. It won’t add anything new or spectacular to your collection.
