Bringing Cottagecore Looks Into Autumn

It was the summer of #cottagecore on TikTok and we were absolutely living for it. For those out of the loop, cottagecore is a sub-genre of fashion that’s heavy on lace, rattan, puff sleeves, gingham, and soft, billowy silhouettes. (Basically, just look at any promotionals from Taylor Swift’s “folklore” and you’ll get the idea.) Because who doesn’t want to look like a delicate little farmer’s daughter?

We just can’t bid adieu to cottagecore yet, even with the dropping temperatures. Here are a few outfit ideas to bring your favourite cottagecore looks into autumn. Bring on the crunchy leaves and apple cider!

She wore blue velvet

Bring your favourite summery dresses into autumn by adding a velvet shrug. Or a velvet duster. Or a velvet headband. We’re all about velvet here. You really cannot overdo it on the velvet. Seriously.

The Canadian tuxedo

Denim on denim will never go out of style. The older and rattier, the better.

Black Magic Woman

What’s more autumnal than wearing all black? And BLACK LACE? To die for. Add in a cute wide brimmed hat to polish the look off. You’ll feel like Stevie Nicks, with the riff from “Rhiannon” playing as your personal theme music.

Wearing plaid just like dad

The lost (blonde) Gilmore Girl.

It’s getting chilly out. Make sure you pair any and all plaid outfits with a cable knit sweater. Want to up the ante? Add pearls. (And pinecones.)

Wear white after Labour Day

Who even made up that stupid rule? White is ethereal on absolutely everybody, and anyone who has a problem with white lace has a problem with me. Got it? Anyway, give your summer dresses a new burst of life by adding dark nails, a messy bun and a black head scarf. Super cute.
