Does My Dog Have A Zodiac Sign?

Your dog’s breed will tell you all about their behaviors, but their zodiac sign can tell you even more about what their personality is like, too. Over the course of your life, you may find that you’re drawn to pets that are compatible with your sign. My sister is a Gemini with a Cancer dog, and she’ll tell you that it was love at first sight. Her puppy’s sweet Cancerian tenderness is the perfect salve to my sister’s anxious Gemini traits. It’s a match made in heaven.

If your pooch is a rescue, you may not know their exact birthday. Not to worry — we’ve got you covered. Read our descriptions to see if one of these signs just feels right for your pup.

Aries

This energetic fire sign will run around and play until his paws give out. An Aries doggo needs lots of stimulation to keep their brains active and lots of physical activity to wear them out. Like their human counterparts, Aries dogs are opinionated, flighty and judgemental — don’t be surprised when this dog turns up her nose at a certain brand of dog food, or changes his mind on his favorite toy. On the flip side, Aries dogs are loving and loyal to the end.

Health issues: Aries is ruler of the head, so watch out for problems related to cognitive impairment!

Taurus

This decadent pooch loves all the spoils of life, and isn’t afraid to show it. They love the finer things in life: good food, lots of sleep, and comfy spaces. (We hope you don’t have a twin bed, because your Taurus pup isn’t one to sleep on the floor.)

The cliche that goes, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” was definitely about a Taurus dog. Taureans, being the bull of the zodiac, are naturally bull-headed and stubborn. Once your dog gets into a cozy routine, there’s no changing them without a fight.

Health issues: Taurus rules the throat chakra, so be mindful of issues relating to the respiratory system and ears, nose and throat.

Gemini

Human Geminis are super friendly and chatty — and doggy counterparts are no exception. Your Gemini dog is a natural social butterfly that loves people and other dogs. They love to bark, yip, and howl — really, anything to hear the sound of their own voice. Teaching them tricks and commands will be a walk in the park, for these dogs just love to express themselves.

Gemini is indecisive, though, so be wary about overwhelming your fur child with too many toys or food options. It could end up stressing them out more!

Health issues: Geminis are prone to over-stimulation, which can lead to stress and anxiety. So while your pooch could schmooze at the dog park until well after dark, it’s best to pencil in a bit of down time, too.

Cancer

Sensitive Cancerians are the most devoted, loving dogs. They make great family pets because of their sweet and nurturing nature. This dog is a lover, not a fighter, so don’t expect this peaceful pup to make a great guard dog any time soon. Instead, treat them for what they are: a loyal companion.

As mentioned, these dogs are uber sensitive — scolding and yelling won’t do. These dogs are super smart and adaptable, though. All you need is a bit of gentle coaxing.

Health issues: Cancers are loyal to a fault. Doggy Cancers can become overly bonded very quickly, and may suffer from separation anxiety and stress when you’re not there.

Leo

Leo the leader is royalty of the zodiac. Act accordingly.

These grandiose and exuberant dogs thrive on praise, so be willing to dole it out liberally. When it comes to Leo dogs, remember: “A.B.D.” : Always be doting (on your precious doggo).

Showing them off at the dog park is no problem, because these pups likely have a LOT of rich, fluffy hair. Let’s face it — these dogs are beautiful, and they know it.

Health issues: Leo rules the heart, so ensure that you’re monitoring your dog’s heart health, especially later in life.

Virgo

Sunny Virgos are born at the end of lazy summer, but Virgo dogs are no slouch. The pups can be a little neurotic — they love routine and order, and despise mess. Virgos (both the humans and canines) are happiest when they’re busy, so keep them occupied with jobs and tasks. These dogs are always happy to learn!

Virgos can also be cautious and timid. Socializing them early can help stave off some of their more anxious tendencies, but these ones will still veer away from spontaneity. Don’t expect your dog to stray too far off-leash in unfamiliar territory. Virgo doggies love to know what’s up before diving in!

Health issues: A nervous tummy can lead to stomach issues down the line. Talk to your vet about the best diet for your dog.

Libra

Libras are social animals, but truthfully, these dogs will remain loyal to their one-and-only. They love partnerships and will form a bond with usually one member of the family. If your Libra doggo is a total mama’s boy or devoted daddy’s girl — this is why! While they love to frolic and play, they truly feel most safe and secure in a singular partnership.

These intellectual air signs have a curious, playful quality to them that makes them absolutely charming and adorable. Teaching them new tricks will be a cinch, especially if you break out the good treats. (Libras love decadence!)

Health issues: Libras rule the kidneys and bladder, and can be prone to endocrine diseases. Monitor your furbaby’s health, and make sure they’re getting enough fluids.

Scorpio

Life just wouldn’t be any fun without Scorpios. If your playful pal is a Scorp, you know that still waters run deep. Beneath their cool and collected surface is a load of energy ready to bolt.

These pups are also naturally secretive — but you probably already knew that, judging by your dog’s many hiding spots and secret lairs. When stressed out, Scorpios are the first to head underneath the covers for refuge.

Health issues: A Scorpio’s health issues comes right down to his element: water. Scorpio rules the bladder and bowels, so make sure your pup is getting enough hydration and a healthy diet.

Sagittarius

These cheerful, fun-loving dogs absolutely love to socialize and can be DRAMATIC. They love to entertain an audience, and nothing brings them more joy than cheering up their families.

Those with a Sag doggo know that these fire signs love to roam the dog park, to frolic and play until the sun goes down. But once they’re done, they’re done. The quintessential introverted extrovert, Sagis get restless easily need plenty of downtime to recoup.

Health issues: Watch out for over-doing it. Sagittarians are prone to over-exertion and muscle strain.

Capricorn

Aloof and independent, Capricorns value hard work above all, but these wise old dogs have a soft side, too. Happy Capricorns love having a job to do, and will always be dependable. You can expect your Cappy dog to be a sort of keeper of the house. Sure, they love playtime, but if push came to shove and you had a home intruder on your hands, you know that Capricorns would be willing to jump and bare some teeth.

Health issues: Capricorn rules the spine, bones and joints — make sure your pup is getting a balanced diet full of calcium and other minerals to avoid arthritis down the line.

Aquarius

Aquarius is the “helper” sign of the zodiac and are ultimate humanitarians. They love their humans and love to socialize. Being so human-oriented, these dogs would make great volunteers or service animals.

Health issues: Watch out for asthma, allergies and joint issues.

Pisces

Pisces dogs are loving and loyal sweethearts — just don’t make them mad. These water signs can run hot and cold, and when they’re feeling miffed, you’re bound to get the cold shoulder. Water signs aren’t associated with tears and crying for no reason!

Most of the time though, these sensitive dogs are relaxed and chilled out. They’re exceptionally intuitive animals, always ready with a snuggle and a kiss for when you’re feeling blue.

Health issues: Pisces rules the hands, feet and circulatory system. Monitor your fur baby’s health and heart by taking them for regular check-ups at the vet.
