Fall Makeup Trends for 2020

As we bid farewell to Summer 2020 and make the leap into autumn, here’s what we predict will be the huge new trends in makeup.

Give me some lip

Lips took centre-stage on the runway at Rodarte, Oscar de la Renta and Marc Jacobs during the A/W runway looks in early 2020. No subtleties here! Extremely bold, unnatural lip colours were all the rage for fall. Electric corals, deep reds, wine stains and even black lipstick were all the rage. Just be sure to keep the rest of the look muted to give the full effect.

American Gothic

Turn down the house music and turn up the Bauhaus. (That’s OG goth music, kids.) Autumn will see us shedding our summer tans and dewy “wet skin” looks for something that’s a little more, well, pale. Matte, colourless skin with little contour and blush was spotted on the runway at Anna Sui, Marc Jacobs and Christopher John Rogers. Halloween is around the corner, and there’s no shame in looking like a creepy porcelain doll.

Rhinestoned

Euphoria makeup was just the beginning of our glitter obsession. It’s time to take the sparkle a step further: rhinestones. Yep — not just for kids anymore! Stick rhinestones in your hair, on your cheeks, on your clothes. Wherever the moment takes you.

Blue period

Blue eyeshadow, we surrender to your mercy. Don’t be afraid to blue yourself with teals, cobalts, ice and sky blues this fall. And you don’t have to limit your eyeshadow application to just your lids, either. Channel your inner Picasso and get crazy with it. Your eyes are the canvas.

Burnt orange or brick red eyeliner

Black eyeliner is so yesterday. (Just kidding, love you forever, black eyeliner.) Don’t be surprised if you start seeing people sporting eyeliner in burnt oranges, burgundies and brackish browns. (That’s a lot of b’s.) Blue eyes and brown eyes, thank us later.
