REVIEW: Shea Moisture Lush Length Shampoo and Conditioner

It smells like lemon candy and we don’t know how to feel about it.

Girls with curly hair all know (or should know) that Shea Moisture is the G.O.A.T. ( “Greatest of All Time”) when it comes to keeping your curls looking fresh for days on end.

The new lush lengths line from Shea Moisture dropped sometime in the past year, and we put it to the test. Is it as good as all the other offerings from the brand?

First of all, the texture. The shampoo is quite thin in terms of viscosity, which is good, because it means that the product is low in sulfates and surfectants, and won’t dry your hair out. The conditioner, on the other hand, is incredibly thick and rich — an impressive feat without the smoothing properties of silicones or parabens. So far, so good! A thick conditioner and a non-sudsy hair wash are exactly what thirsty curls crave, so it’s safe to say that “Lush Lengths” passes the test.

What doesn’t pass muster is the fact that the conditioner smells off. There’s no other way to put — it’s waxy and synthetic. Thankfully, it rinses away and dissipates once your hair is dry, but for the two minutes it’s sitting in your hair? Eugh.

Overall, we give the lush lengths shampoo and conditioner set a solid 6/10. Is it great for curly hair? Yes! But will the smell make you gag? Unfortunately. We believe that good-smelling hair and good-looking hair shouldn’t be mutually exclusive terms, so for that, we give it a marginal pass.
