REVIEW: TheraBreath Fresh Breath Oral Rinse

It’s super weird that, of all things, a mouth wash would go viral, but here we are. But is it any good? Let’s investigate.

“I’m gonna tell you if a product is worth it with a simple ‘yes or no,’” are the opening words of a viral audio clip making the rounds on TikTok. Users have been using this audio to give small snippets of their favorite products.

Amongst all the Glossier Futuredews (“Yes, oh my god yes”) and Silisponges (“NO”) one product has been talked about more than the rest: TheraBreath Oral Rinse.

What makes this product so ubiquitous and so well loved?

My thoughts:

I picked up a bottle of TheraBreath from Walmart two weeks ago while visiting my in-laws, and used it over the course of the July 1st long weekend. And I was HOOKED.

Unlike Listerine, TheraBreath contains no alcohol, which means you can actually swish it around in your mouth for more than 15 seconds without dying.

I like to go whole-hog when I try new products, so I’ve been using TheraBreath Oral Rinse for two minutes while I do my nightly routine. The mild mint flavour is nice and light, and the texture is smooth and non-oily.

Here’s where it gets gross, but good: So, I brush and floss my teeth every night. EVERY NIGHT. Once you’ve been hit with a $2,000 dental bill to fix six cavities, you start taking precautions. Anyway, even with all the dental fastidiousness, I still manage to miss some stuff. When I use TheraBreath, I effectively pull out all of the extra gunk that was left over in my teeth, leaving my gums feeling super smooth and healthy.

Also, since the rinse contains sodium bicarbonate (AKA baking soda), it really works to whiten teeth. All I drink is coffee and La Croix, and this stuff completely busted up my stains.

As for freshening breath — it’s just okay. The mild mint won’t give you that “my breath smells like a cool Alpine breeze” like Listerine does, but it does an okay job. Just pop in a piece of gum, because the TheraBreath oral rinse is WORTH IT.
