You’ll need a lot of black eyeshadow, a lot of hairspray, and a lot of sass.
How iconic is Miley Cyrus? Her cover of The Cranberries’ “Zombie” gave us chills. CHILLS! It was a career-defining set at Whisky-a-Go-Go, like watching Nirvana do MTV Unplugged for the first time.
We were mesmerized by everything: the vocals, the band, the entire look was a sight to behold.
We had to recreate it.
Don’t be intimidated by all the black shadow and severe lines — it’s actually much easier to do than you’d think.
This look was created with a combination of the Naked3 palette and the Natasha Denona Glam Palette.
To create a smoky, blended look I used a taupe eyeshadow as a transition shade and slowly built up the darker foundation with greys and blacks (all Naked3). Emphasis on the word SLOWLY.
I used the “tape trick” to create a rounded edge look — this eyeshadow look could easily veer into raccoon territory without a soft hand and some restraint. The tape definitely helps soften the corners.
To finish the look, I used NYX slim lip pencil in Pumpkin and Wet n Wild gloss in Cherish — which is just about the gaudiest, most metallic gloss ever created. Perfect for this over-the-top look.
And there you have it. The perfect (and easy) black and grey smoky eye.
The rock-n-roll attitude and Marianne Faithfull vocal stylings are all up to you, though.
