What Is Happening With Fall 2020 Runway Shows?

It looks like New York Fashion Week is still going full-steam ahead despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM) also confirmed that women’s fashion shows in Paris Fashion Week will be operating September 28 to October 6.

The shows will comply with health regulations such as mandatory masks and a limited number of guests, but the fact that the shows are even carrying on is raising some concerns among show-goers and designers.

Fashion shows are crowded affairs that some would argue are swiftly losing relevance. Yes, supermodels have served us iconic looks for several decades now, but in the age of social media, staging an expensive live show four months before the clothes are released is hardly a novel way to drum excitement.

But then again there are traditionalists who see the value of each city hosting its own spin on the ultra-glamorous affairs. In a two-dimensional world, the tactile, three-dimensional aspect of a fashion show is a welcome reprieve from the constant flurry of glittering images.
